DUTIES:
The Licensed Marriag! e and Family Therapist (LMFT) is assigned to the Mental Health Service Line and will work autonomously to provide case assessment, treatment, and discharge planning to veterans requiring mental health and substance use treatment. The incumbent will function as a counselor, case manager, consultant, and educator, while providing a full range of psychotherapy modalities with individuals, couples, and groups.

The LMFT provides case assessment and psychiatric diagnosis, treatment planning, and assumes responsibility for coordinating discharge planning. Provides individual, couples, and group psychotherapy services to veterans with a wide range of mental health and substance use disorders. Maintains appropriate records including Initial Psychiatric Intakes and History, treatment plans, progress notes of each psychotherapy session, and termination notes. Provides psychiatric crisis/triage services under the supervision of a privileged Mental Health clinician. Provides su! pportive counseling in the development and utilization of community resources. Provides Tele-Mental Health services. Serves on Interdisciplinary Treatment Team(s). All of this requires a high degree of professional expertise. Assesses the mental status and safety of veterans at each visit. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

The incumbent will participate in the Mental Health clinical on-call rotation, provide Tele-Mental Health, serve on Interdisciplinary Treatment Teams, and maintain a patient panel.

On occasion and as needed, travel to Cheyenne VA is expected and is at your own cost to fulfill responsibilities of this position (One time- New Employee Orientation, renewal of PIV ID badge, etc.)

Citizenship:
Be a citizen of the United States (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

Education:
Master's degree in marriage and family therapy form a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or have graduated from a nationally accredited program conferring a comparable mental health degree as specified in the qualification standards of those disciplines (Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry). All additional course work taken to be accepted for MFT licensure must come from a nationally accredited program in one of the above areas. NOTE: A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a COAMFTE approved program is considered to be a comparable mental health degree.

Licensure:
Must hold a full, curr! ent, and unrestricted license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State.

GRADE REQUIREMENTS for GS-11:
In addition to the basic requirements listed above, to qualify at the full performance level of this occupation, completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-master's degree experience in the field of health care marriage and family therapy work (VA or non-VA experience) is required. (C

andidates must have at least I year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level). Experience must have been in a major specialty treatment program area such as, but not limited to, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), mental health intensive case management (MHICM). or other areas of equivalent scope and complexity. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate ! the KSA's below:
1.

Ability to make professional evalu! ations, decisions, and recommendation for treatment planning and implementation.

2.

Advanced knowledge and mastery of the fundamentals of the counseling process which includes defining patient/family problems and maintaining an effective counseling relationship.

3.

Ability to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and students on the counseling process within various specialty areas, build on the foundation of competence through regular meetings and discussions to explain assignments, review progress of cases and confer about the counseling perspectives and orientation.

4.

Ability to provide complex crisis intervention and stabilization to patients who are in psychological distress.

5.

Ability to establish goals/treatment through a collaborative process with the patient utilizing advanced counseling skills, including evidenced-based practices and screening/assessment.

6.

Abi! lity to use a wide variety of individual, group, or familial counseling interventions; demonstrates sensitivity to diversity and possesses multicultural counseling skills.

7.

Ability to fully utilize the current DSM in making diagnoses and formulation of treatment goals and application of appropriate clinical intervention using professional counseling practices.

8.

Ability to develop and deliver psycho-education groups that include life skills, family support, and community integration.

9.

Advanced knowledge in program planning and development of policies and procedures.

10.

Ability to make key decisions in the hiring and identification of

top candidates.

11.

Ability to provide leadership in facilitating the process of

coordinating program

consults

assessments, admissions, care assignments and discharges.

12.

Ability to provide subj! ect matter consultation to other colleagues and students within the fie! ld of counseling working on an interdisciplinary team.
