Peak Team Peer Specialist

ROLE SUMMARY
Peer Specialist will be responsible for providing professional and effective assistance to clients.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as a role model and mentor to people working toward recovery.
2. Informs, trains, supports and empowers consumers who directly or indirectly receive mental health services, including co-occurring clients.
3. Communicates, represents and promotes the consumer and family/caregiver's perspective within the mental health system.
4. Provides education to consumers about recovery, peer support, consumer advocacy organizations, and illness management.
5. May engender a sense of acceptance and affiliation in mental health consumers who have experienced social stigmatization.
6. Draws on personal experiences, provides training in a wide variety of independent living skills.
7 . Facilitates self-help groups for clients.
8. Attends and participates in special events, conferences, workshops and training events within the mental health system and community.
9. Develops activities, programs and resources that support consumers in achieving their goals.
10.Supports the appropriate recognition, acceptance and understanding of social and cultural factors in the provision of mental health services.
11.Develops effective working relationships with agencies and organizations to advocate for consumer empowerment.
12.May prepare and support clients at case staffing and at a variety of formal and informal hearings.
13.Helps consumers to articulate their needs.
14.May help consumers identify recovery goals.
15.Focuses on and is sensitive to consumer satisfaction with services received and general satisfaction with mental health services.
16.Assists and promotes consumers and those who support them in support networks and activities.
17.Provides outreach to engage prospective consumers in services or existing clients in increased community involvement.
18.Provides peer support to isolated clients by developing a trusting relationship for accompanying client in the community as needed.
19.May provide employment support.
20.Documents all activity as required.
21.Other duties as assigned by supervisor, program, clinic or executive directors.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Proficient with MS Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrates an independent work initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficient with standard office equipment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A person who has been a recipient of mental health services for serious mental illness. Able to orga nize daily work tasks and follow through. Have good skills for written and verbal communication. Have interpersonal skills to interact and provide personal support to clientele. Able to work in a team setting.
